Rhythm Power-Africa
Teambeat's Master Drummer Tuza and Melbourne drum teacher Simon Fraser have joined forces to form Rhythm Power, A Journey in Drum and Dance that takes place every January/February in Ghana.
Join Tuza and Simon for a once in a lifetime opportunity that will open your eyes, ears and spirit to the music and culture of West Africa. The four-week study intensive will take you into the heart of the region's traditional rhythms, dances and songs, and you can participate in some incredible festivals and ceremonies. This is an incredible adventure allowing you to experience the customs of Ghanaian people first hand.

Rhythm Power showcases Salaka, one of Ghana's leading cultural ensembles. Salaka are a group of talented young performers who have been trained for many years by Master Drummer Tuza and now share their performance and teaching expertise with tour participants.
Tuza began training the members of Salaka when they were very young in order to pass on the traditional music and culture of his country to the next generation.
As Ghana becomes more Western, there is a danger that the beautiful rhythms and dances so important to African music and culture may be lost. In order to preserve this rich heritage, Tuza devoted his
energy over many years to Salaka amidst resistance from parents who felt drumming was unimportant.
Salaka are now a highly esteemed force in their community, performing and teaching for locals and visitors and are proud to pass their knowledge onto the next generation. Many of them are also supporting their parents and extended families through income earned from drumming, making their parents proud.

Teambeat's intention is to encourage and support African musicians to preserve and share their culture within their own communities and abroad, we are proud to recommend Rhythm Power and also hope to engage Salaka in an Australian tour in the near future.
